Classes, Lectures and Workshops with Jackie Robinson

The author of
twelve books on quiltmaking, and quilting since the 70's,
I've been actively in the business since 1982, when I opened
my first shop in a St. Louis suburb. In '88, we sold and
made a choice move to Durango, CO. where we opened Animas
Quilts. In '02, we moved to Eureka, Mt. My work has been
featured in several quilt magazines,
most recently June '07 of American Patchwork & Quilting, Feb. '07 of
Love of Quilting, Winter '06 of Designer's Quarters, Mar/Apr 06 Love of Quilting,
and June 06 American Patchwork & Quilting.
My quilts are also on the cover of The Quilter Magazine - Winter
2001, Quilt Sampler - '97, Quilter's Newsletter & Quiltmaker
- Dec. '97, Australian Patchwork & Quilting - Vol4, No6,
Patchwork Quilt Tsushin - # 84, American Patchwork & Quilting-
Feb. '99, and Quilting Today - # 69, plus others. I've had two appearances
on Simply Quilts and two on Kaye's Quilting Friends.
Hailing
from Kansas, I hold degrees from the Fashion Institute of
Technology in New York City, and from the University of
the State of New York in merchandising and in sociology.
It's nice to wear lots of "different hats". I'm a teacher,
designer, and author. What that really means is that I never
get bored! Married to Jery Wyatt, a carpenter and builder,
my two children are grown.
I believe each
of us has technique skills to share and mine are combined
with efficient time management abilities. My students
gain knowledge of precision piecing quickly on the sewing
machine, often including more than one approach to a specific
process because we are all so different, and everyone
needs the opportunity to discover their own successful
methods. In the classroom, I'm a active teacher, moving
from student to student and sharing as much information
as possible during the session. Students tell me my instructions
are exceptionally clear, and it's all taught with a gentle
and warm sense of humor.
The workshop selections below have recently been streamlined -- offering you
the most exciting and current techniques.

Three
Dimensional Patchwork Sampler
3-D Patchwork is an exciting new way to create surface
texture on your quilts by folding and piecing fabric,
catching only the edges in the seams, leaving raised parts
and creating Three Dimensional Patchwork You will learn
fold and sew techniques for bow ties,on point center squares,
flying geese, Ohio stars, pinwheels, eight-pointed stars,
geese pinwheels and more. Blocks are chosen for their

Frank Lloyd
Wright's Tree of Life
Based on art glass designed by Mr. Wright, patchwork for
quilting can be very exciting. Explore the use of strata
sets and diagonal cuts to create this design from the
Darwin D. Martin House in Buffalo, NY. This project is
a great 1-day workshop because it employs most of the
techniques used in my book of Wright quilts. This workshop
is NOT difficult, and it has an art-y flair, so satisfies
the desire for an art quilt in a traditional quilter.
Six hours. Advanced beginners and Intermediate quilters.
NOT for a new quilter. |
 |

In the
Tradition of Frank Lloyd Wright
Create an original quilt based on the art glass windows
from Wright's Prairie period. Students are instructed
in working with strata and diagonal cuts while designing
their own quilted version of an exquisite window. Designs
for inspiration are provided, along with techniques for
creating individual masterpieces. Students also have the
option of duplicating one of my quilts. Two or more days.
Intermediate to Advanced quilters. |
 |

Eureka !
The Ultimate Log Cabin. Several variations on this theme
provide an excellent opportunity to learn a multitude of machine-piecing tricks
while making a stunning quilt. 2 days. All levels. |

Harvest
Song
This project was designed as a 10 month block of the month,
with 8 of the lessons having specifically different piecing
techniques. It's not only a gorgeous quilt -- it's full
of learning opportunities! Bright beginner to Intermediate
level. Accuracy in piecing is important, therefore this
workshop is not suitable for a first quilt. 3 - 5 days. |

LECTURE
DESCRIPTIONS
(approximately 1-1/4 hours each)
Frank
Lloyd Wright; the man, his designs, and how they work
for Quilters
Undoubtedly one of the best known architects of
all time, Mr. Wright had a genius for design. In this
biographical lecture I "put him on" (in costume) and
explore the man and how he developed as an architect.
Wright's life was similar to a soap opera, and this
program is both informative and humorous. Slides show
some of his work. I'll share all 18 quilts from the
book. With the permission of the Frank Lloyd Wright
Foundation, I've been building quilts based on his art
glass designs. This is a very popular lecture, and a
good one to share with spouses.
Piecing Quilts E-A-S-Y with Jackie
A Trunk Show with a 'twist'. I've lost count of the number of quilts I've made, but
share my packable favorites here, along with helpful
information to help quilters achieve success with their
quilt making. Many of these quilts have stories. There
are numerous 'tricks of the trade' included in this
happy lecture, sure to make you smile.
Tricks Up My Sleeve

flat? A mini-workshop in Lecture format, designed to share solid, useful methods for
improved machine piecing.
