I would describe myself as a dedicated professional athlete who works diligently on his game. I also take the time to help others and contribute to the advancement of my sport. I am honored to have been awarded the Steve Nagy Sportsmanship Award twice.
What age and year were you diagnosed?
I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when I was 19 in 1985.
What type of insulin pump do you use?
I use the Animas OneTouch Ping®.

I was valedictorian of my high school class of 432 students.
Why did you choose an Animas® insulin pump?
I chose the OneTouch Ping® System because I liked the combo bolus option, as well as the flexible basal rate option.
Why did you become a professional bowler?
I am lucky because I get to make a living doing what I am most passionate about.
What was your life like before an insulin pump?
I chose insulin pump therapy because the PBA tour is hectic and it would have been impossible to compete at a high level while taking shots.
What are the main challenges with living with type 1 diabetes?
My main challenges of living with diabetes are being diligent with taking blood glucose readings and eating well on the road. I also have to adjust to time zone changes and different exercise schedules.
What advice would you give to others your age, who are newly diagnosed with type 1 diabetes?
You can do whatever you put your mind to. See your doctor regularly and check your blood sugars as often as possible. Also, so you have no surprises, develop a routine. Exercise and eat at the same times if possible. It will allow for better blood sugar control.
